ODETTE (Organization for Data Exchange by Tele Transmission in Europe) is an organization associating and representing the automotive industry in Europe. One of the goals of its activity is to create standards that facilitate operation, automation and cooperation. In addition to the identification system (Odette ID), digital certificates (Odette CA), supply chain management (MMOG), it has created the EDI OFTP (Odette File Transfer Protocol) standard, which has been released for the second time.
Communication via OFTP2 is carried out using software approved by Odette, a specially assigned identifier and certificates. On the one hand, this makes the system much less accessible, on the other hand, it provides increased security, compatibility and stability of communication.
In addition, obtaining an ID makes it easier for automotive companies to find and communicate with dedicated suppliers or sales markets.
All this makes OFTP2 the most popular communication protocol in the automotive industry.
