Data migration

The data migration process includes the selection, extraction, preparation, cleaning and transformation of data from the source system (or systems) and their permanent transfer to the target system.

The whole process can be divided into basic stages. These are:

• selection – analysis and identification of connections and dependencies between data structures in the source and target system,
• extraction – obtaining selected data,
• transformation – transformation of data to the required format in accordance with the agreed mapping, sifting of erroneous, redundant or obsolete data, supplementing incomplete data,
• permanent transfer – loading the data to the target system, testing and removing it from the source system.

In the case of the SAP system, we divide the data into basic – including data on materials, customers, employees, warehouses – and transactional, such as: ongoing processes, open transactions, unpaid invoices, etc.
