System upgrade

There are two basic types of upgrade projects. These are:

• technical upgrade, the purpose of which is to upgrade to a higher version of the SAP system, if possible without making any improvements.
• functional upgrade aimed at making improvements to the system.

Some elements of both types can be mixed with each other, for example a technical upgrade with the implementation of minor improvements or a technical upgrade with a list of improvements and postponed execution. From the project’s point of view, an upgrade is an undertaking during which an upgrade is made to the version of the software in use. Upgrading to a new SAP version normally results in an upgrade:

• configuration natively delivered by SAP (configuration settings determine the way of implementing business processes in SAP),
• basic data in the scope of transferring the used information to new tables, delivered with the new version along with the necessary conversion in the part that has not been modified (basic data is dictionary data stored in the system, e.g. material indexes, customers, etc.),
• transaction data in the scope of transferring the exploited information to new tables delivered with the new version and the necessary conversion in the part that has not been modified (transaction data is data contained in the economic events posted in the system, e.g. invoices, material movements, etc. ),
• a repository for all data dictionary objects, e.g. table definitions, views, structures, etc.,
• ABAP / 4 programs that implement business functionality in the field of standard software provided by SAP,
• control data necessary for the correct operation of the SAP system, automatically converted,
• Polish language updated automatically.
